How to Figure a Quote – Insurance premiums are based on both age and the amount of coverage you want. When I get insurance I cover the cost of all the non-refundable items on the trip. For example I include the total cruise price as this will become totally refundable at some point. Then I include only the change fee charged by the airlines to change my ticket as I figure I will use that non refundable ticket within the next year. Of course you may put the entire amount of the ticket but that may increase your premium. I may also include the first night of a hotel as you usually have to cancel a hotel at least 24 hours in advance. I also play with the quote system by using my back browser arrow to enter different amounts. Usually premium price breaks are on an even $1000 point. So for example the premium may be the same for $1,100 coverage as it is for $1,950 coverage. So I go for the extra $1,950.
